Magic Hour Writers was formed in early 2010 by a group of writers who met in a continuing education writing class.  We felt that if we didn't have support and encouragement to write, we might not write. Since other writing support groups were available to us, we decided that we would establish this writers' group as one with a focus on writing for children.

While writing for children remains a primary focus, we support our members in all their writing endeavors. We bring in speakers occasionally and have an on-going email stream of opportunities and resources available to  writers.

Our small group now averages about 15 members a year.  Most people who join become long-term members. Our abilities range from "I think I want to write but haven't" to novice writers to published authors.  One member is an award winning photographer, some have merited poetry awards and have work that appeared in the Huffington Post, Northwest Indiana Times, and other widely read venues, and most have published in local group publications like The Edge of the Prairie, Hoosier Horizons, and Horizon Spectrum.

Our writers, current and retired, come from multiple fields of work.  Those fields include bankers, educators, paralegals, staff scientists, and administrative assistants.  Our ages span a wide range.  The variety of people found in our group leads to lively conversations, vast funds of knowledge, and multiple experiences that service both experienced and beginning writers.

Meeting Times: We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Rosati's Pizza in Schererville, IN. Send us an email if you would like to attend a meeting, check our Facebook page for any date/time changes, and look at our blog to see minutes from our meetings.

We welcome guests at our meetings. You may attend two meetings before joining our group.  Dues are $10.00 per year and are non-refundable. Members' dues will be collected at the beginning of each calendar year. Any remaining balance will be carried over into the next calendar year. The acting treasurer will report on the balance of our budget and inform members of any income and expenses upon request. These dues are used to provide honorariums to speakers.
